Screw conveyors include horizontal screw conveyors and vertical screw conveyors.
The screw shaft of a vertical screw conveyor rotates at a higher speed than that of a standard screw conveyor. Under centrifugal force, the added material generates friction against the housing. This friction prevents the material from rotating with the screw blades and overcomes the downward gravitational force, thereby enabling vertical material transport. The typical lifting height can reach 20 meters.
Horizontal screw conveyors facilitate multi-point loading and unloading, and can simultaneously perform mixing, stirring, or cooling functions during transport. Their conveying length can reach up to 150 meters.
Screw conveyors utilize the rotation of a helical shaft equipped with screw blades to induce relative motion of materials along the spiral surface. The materials resist rotation with the screw due to friction forces exerted by the trough or conveying pipe walls, thereby achieving axial advancement and material transport.
In horizontal screw conveyors, the friction force within the trough is primarily generated by the materials’ own gravitational force. Conversely, in vertical screw conveyors, the friction force against the conveying pipe walls is mainly induced by the centrifugal force resulting from the materials’ rotational motion.
